I purchased a new shifter trim and I'm in the process of semi restoring broken pieces in my console. The greys aren't even close in color. Had anyone else come across these colors variations in new plastic trim pieces. I talked with ECSTUNING and there going to swap it out for another one, but I dont know if that color is any better.

That grey doesn't match the top of the dash, so that's not an option. I was thinking of a black matte carbon fiber vinyl.
When I replaced mine years ago the one I got (at a hefty discount) came in primer and I had to paint it (black) to match (hence the hefty discount). The one you received is the grey color of the primed one I got.
I did my center stack in carbon fiber this past spring and absolutely love how it turned out. I used 3M Di-Noc. It was easy to install, just need a heat gun and a good razor blade. IMG_20180403_164701.jpg
The Carbon fiber looks really good... Krohen27 please post pics or reply and let me know how you make out. I just shipped mine back for another one.
I'm about to swap the same trim in Imola Red. I haven't even looked to see if it matches the existing. Better take a look when I get home.
Mr Bingley after you painted your trim piece how well did the spray paint hold up to cleaning over the years?
I used paint made for plastics along with an adhesion promoter and and did very careful prep, and it has held up without issue--about 4 years now I think--black.
Fantastic. Same problem over here.

I bet Mr Bingley on to something. It may be the replacement part is only available in a primed condition and requires painting/wrapping.

When I bought a new black piece, it came as black. Has anyone recently ordered a color other than grey?

Try the duplicolor fabric and vinyl dark gray spray paint available at your typical auto stores. I used it to repaint a set of steering wheel tabs to match my gray interior and the results were absolutely acceptable. Buy $6 can and see what you think. Better than horrible looking fake carbon IMO.
