Getting the dash out wasn’t that bad. I was able to do it without taking the fracture bolts out of the steering column which saved a lot of hassle.

Figured out that pin 17 on the dlc shouldn’t be needed based on its TXD2 protocol only communicating between the dme and the oem obd port. Also went back through the wiring and found that some of the pins I posted last night were wrong. I updated them above.

Now I just need to test this.

Did you get the ABS working? Only way is to pull the dash and run wires from X69 to the ABS module?

I got so frustrated trying to wire the obd out of the Underwood connectors trying to mimic the ads that I plugged an oem harness into the Underwood connectors just to use the diagnostic port to read the abs. I found a computer with a serial port and got INPA running tonight. Haven’t gone through the codes yet but here’s what’s popping up.

Why do you say that about x69?

Disregard the x69 connector. I messed up my extension harness when I moved my ABS module. It is working now.

I have a schematic of the ASC & ABS system. I believe those codes are for the ASC, pins 14, 45, 80, 81, 82 on the DME.

This is some good troubleshooting: https://blog.bavauto.com/14248/bmw-d...es-and-others/

I found another link on an e39 forum (can't find it now) they actually had the correct pin outs. What year is your car? It seems a lot of times it's a wheel speed sensor or Relay. There is a testing procedure for the relay too.

    Process 2 & 1 are Timing control/injection control and Ignition Cut-off.

Your mention of those lines got me thinking. I pulled up the schematic and they run through x69. I plugged it in and now I only have error 209.

Now to plug my WS harness back in to confirm the other errors in the image above were triggered by the DME as it was not receiving signal on the ACS lines and more importantly don’t come back.

Confirmed! No more abs light. Made my own PITA by not going to INPA earlier. Consequence of a first BMW I guess.

Now to pull the ACS light and make up the a/c lines.

Started working on upholstery. I was planning to take the car to a shop to have the headliner redone in plain black. Then I looked at what it takes to remove it along with the sunroof and decided to remove them from the car to save some $. Then I looked at what it takes to do it myself. Then decided to use M-Cross fabric. What a rabbit hole!

overall it was pretty easy. Taking the headliner was super straightforward and simple. A little awkward to get out of the car. Removing the old glue was messy but was easy to do by simply rubbing across the liner in a sanding-like action with a latex glove. Took two people to lay and glue the fabric, and patience to do in steps. Lots of clothespins used on the edges.

Started work on the exhaust. All 304 stainless. Running 3” into a termination box then 2.5” out. Looks pretty good so far.

Wish I could take credit for the welding. My job has been cuts, bends, mock up, etc. Someone else is doing all the tig work. And yes, his work is very good. Hopefully going to wrap up the front end tonight and then it’s on to the rear section and muffler.

Does anyone have photos of the routing of their windshield washer tubing, including how it runs down the fender and loops near the hood hinge?

Here’s the rear section. Pretty happy with how it turned out.

The last bit of work remaining is to weld the hangers. I decide to use some 1/2” 304ss I had. It took a lot of heat and a lot of pressure to bend these 90’s.

Here’s a clip of the exhaust. I still need to check for leaks as well as clock and tighten the v-band clamps but I’m pretty happy with it!

I need some a/c help. I've been messing with it on and off for a few months and decided to finish it while I'm off work during the holidays.

    A couple notes:
    - Wiring is the WS subharness with a GM compressor
    - Soldered an a/c compressor pigtail to the pins on the compressor connector itself so the wiring would clear the frame rail
    - Compressor itself is a brand new (not a rebuild) F-Body compressor
    - Hawks Motorsports 90 degree adapter torqued to 26 ftlbs using flat grey/black washer-type seals
    - Serp belt is off to prevent the waterpump from spraying me with coolant as I removed the heater hoses for better access to where the a/c line fittings thread onto the Hawks adapter
    - Everything but the expansion valve and evaporator have been replaced - compressor, condenser, dryer, lines
    - GM 3 wire pressure sensor mounted between the condenser and the dryer
    - HP Tuners is set to an analog a/c type
    - Climate control unit has been rebuilt and has no problems control fan speed, vent flaps, etc.

I added 3oz of PAG 150 to the suction port on the compressor and another 2oz to the dryer. Yesterday I hooked up a small can of parts store r134 and couldn't get it to take much. The compressor clutch would engage for a couple seconds and then disengage for ~20 seconds. And then repeat itself. Today I started wondering if it was short cycling due to have such low pressure. I couldn't even get it to short cycle, so I jumped the relay to force voltage to the compressor. It kicked on of course but was really slow to build pressure. I'm assuming this is normal due to using the small r134 cans. Is this correct? Could the 2oz of PAG in the drier be creating a blockage?

Any thoughts on the short cycling? I'm going to put the belt back on tomorrow but does GM use a voltage protection mode and stop sending voltage to things like the a/c if the ecu isn't detecting alternator voltage? Is there a setting in HP Tuners that I need to change?

Did you vacuum down the A/C system and ensure it held vacuum after the vacuum pump was turned off for 30 minutes to ensure you have a sealed system and no atmosphere in the lines so that additional R134A can replace the removed air?

Finally seeing this thread and it looks great!

Love the color, too. That car is going to be a hoot to drive once you get it finished.
