    Shift knob adventure

Wanted to replace the old Knob-didn’t illuminate, shiny leather, foggy plastic. I ordered a new Zhp illuminated Knob from leather Z as well as new boots (ebrake, shifter) from redline.

I set set out to do the usual arduous “pull a Knob” (w/o personal injury) which I’ve done a few times on other BMWs. Despite my best efforts (while not a Gronk-size and not as young as I once was I still work out and don’t think I’m a “girly man”) the $$%&*@ thing didn’t budge!

Since i I was replacing the Knob, out came the Dremmel. I wound up splitting up 2 sides to get it off. Someone had glued the Knob to the shifter...

I used a hair dryer on my shift knob to pull it off while doing shifter bushings. Don’t think it would’ve actually come off had I not.

I have glued a broken shift knob on my car before.

I also replaced it with the ZHP version.
But I knew I would have to be a little aggressive to remove it.

The joys of used car repair. At least you didn't pop yourself in the face when the knob actually let loose.
