I was on one of the busiest highways in the Washington DC area when my 2015 BMW M235xi had a transmission malfunction out of nowhere. The feeling was the same as if I ran out of gas but there was plenty in the tank. Since everyone is going fast and I was rapidly losing speed I could not get over to the shoulder and I was disabled in the middle of the highway. Luckily some nice guys pulled over to help me out but as that was happening two other cars collided while trying to go around me. The accident + my disabled vehicle shut down 4 lanes of AM rush hour traffic. My car was not able to shift out of park and I had to be towed to a local dealership. Luckily my car has 43k miles and is still under warranty. At most I'll get out of this paying for just the towing expense but it could have been much, much worse.
Has anyone else had a similar error happen to them? No word from the dealer yet on what it is but I will update when I get word.
