I have a 99 328i with A m52, I took off the intake manifold to replace the hard coolant lines under it and I noticed my wires on my cam position sensor were frayed so I replaced it whille I was working on it. I never had a problem with it before. After putting 2 different sensors in I had a code for it. I then put in a OEM sensor and had a misfire. I currently have the original sensor I pulled out back in it with the same code and I just replaced the sensor on the other side. Any ideas?
if it was only a,problem atrocities the water pipe work I would recheck my work, there are some connectors for instance that are the same as others easily misconnected.
How did you fix the frayed wires. Crimp connectirs are not your friend. The only way to properly fix the wires is with a soldering iron, quality electronics solder, flux and shrink tubing.
I dont think the wires are damaged enough to not work so I just wrapped it in electrical tape for now because I was just trying to see if it would even work. Like I said I never had a problem with this original sensor. As far as electrical connections go, I tried to not unplug as much as I could but is there anything that really couldve caused this? Is it possible that I'm plugged into the wrong thing?
Crimped connections can come loose. That’s why I solder them.
