So as mentioned in a thread about replacing the bumper, shocks etc. it came to light that the frame had taken a pretty bad hit and the exhaust had damaged some of the drivetrain. The costs hit the ceiling as a result so my E34 has been written off, which is an unbelievable shame since it was in such good condition. I've loved my time with it but I'll be moving on to a different car. I'll probably never go with an E34 again since it would probably never be as good as this one was.
I appreciate all the help everyone here has given me over the years, this forum has been an endless source of information that I utilized constantly. I'll be back in another BMW soon though as the E34 has made me fall head over heels for the brand. So take care out there guys and watch out for other drivers, let's keep E34s on the road for another 30 years!

Always sad when this happens. Unfortunately the insurance value does not come close to covering the emotional love we have for these cars. This is my greatest fear.
Look into hagerty they can give you a set amount that you are insured for so you know what you will get if it’s totalled.
I’ve heard nothing but good stories about hagerty
Sorry to hear about this, what a bummer. All the best with your next ride.. let us know what you end up getting.
I feel your pain. My 1990 was rear ended and totaled after 28 years of service. With 253k miles on the odometer, I just got $2500 from the insurance company. It could have gone another 5-8 years.
That's a shame. There isn't a better old sedan than the e34 imo.
Everything after is ugly*, I'd only look at other bmws if I wanted a coupe (which I don't)
*E: I'd only get a e39 if it was a m5.

Bought a lexus yet?
No. The same day of the accident I found another e34 made exactly three months before. Two weeks later I bought it. It only had 54k miles (versus 253k the crashed e34 had). The funny thing is that I am fixing in it the same things I fixed in my previous e34. Such is life.

Big update guys. After a long time of discussions with insurance and a few repairers, my insurance company decided to not only pay me the agreed value of the car but also the options of keeping the car or leaving it with them to scrap it. I decided to keep it with condition of it NOT being written off so it can be repaired and re-registered in the future.
I have since bought another BMW, this time it's an E39 which I'm absolutely loving, so I've given the E34 to a friend for free. He's a mechanic and massive BMW lover and has told me that he'll be fixing it up and will have it back on the road in the coming weeks. The life of my E34 hasn't ended and another E34 actually gets to stay on the road instead of being taken off. He's absolutely thrilled to have it since he had one in the past and regretted selling it but always loved seeing mine. I'm sad to see it go but I'm absolutely chuffed to know that it's in good hands instead of being torn apart at a yard.
I'll stick around the forum here a little but my new home is going to be the E39 forums
Glad it's not on the registry of write offs so someone else can play with it.
What e39 did you get?
I almost bought a 528 for $1200 (cheap because it needed tyres and PCV - apparently a 5hr job! - but the love just wasn't there)

I'm really excited to see how it turns out. I'll be seeing him soon to give him some spare parts I've collected over the years and discuss my new car. His plans for the E34 are to use it as a nice weekend cruise car.
I ended up with a 528 actually. So far it's going great, it's got a very comfortable ride and handles beautifully. I hate to say it but I'm really preferring the interior over the E34s, the design inside really feels like it could pass for a brand new car.
Yikes, 5 hours for a PCV? It would be a labor of love but if you don't love the car then it's not worthwhile I guess. Not much needs doing on my 528, mostly I'm just having issues with the dash cluster and MID unit not communicating with each other. It doesn't impact the cars function at all but just means I have no clock or OBC.
