thanks chedley will have a look
still finding it hard to find why I have the problem with the transmission has anyone else had this
You mentioned your wheel speed sensors checked good with a scanner? I had the same issue and it turned out to be a wheel speed sensor, although I did get a code for a WSS.
yep shop did a cheek while driving the car all speed sensors read the same, only code was dsc return pump fault so will start there then if nobody had this happen
Maybe it's 2 separate issues. Sometimes when the transmission thermistor is bad or the tranny is overheating, there's a "hardware" limp mode that will behave similar to your description. It will shift 1st. to 2nd over 3500 rpm then stay there almost until redline. It will shift manually but it won't hold any gear higher than 3rd. and you won't have the S mode indicator. If this is the case, your transmission needs an oil change (it's already been overheated and the fluid has lost properties) and revising the heath exchanger/thermostat assembly.

I'd rather die or take a walk before driving an E60 or any BMW made after Y2K.
