So, recently my car met with a deer on the road. Luckily damage was localized to the driver's lower side of the bumper. Upon visiting realoem, I found that the lower grille config is not directly tied to the VIN somehow. The center section is always all open, however the left and right sides vary which squares are blocked or open. My car had the bumper changed a few times before because the previous owner kept running up onto curbs with it, and I have no idea which grids it would have had. Currently I have 18 and 20 (See attached image.) However, I noticed that 18 leaves an open section next to the fog light for nothing, and the lower half of the brake cooling duct is blocked, which leaves me to believe the proper part should be 17.
Now, on the other side, I currently have 20, which has all 4 open slots. on the left 2 is the brake cooling duct and the upper half looks like it's for the alt. cooling duct. This side of the car was impacted by the deer, so I need to replace the alt cooling duct and the brake cooling duct.
If anyone can let me know if indeed 17 and 20 are the right ones for a '99 528i please let me know.
Many thanks,
Al.
