Newest info anyone has for aftermarket radio on e39 w/dsp....

I have been searching everywhere for any info on installing a new radio in my 540 w/dap. The stock unit is the navigation screen up front and unit next to amp in trunk. I have the radio already and have tried everything I have heard to get it to work. I also have been getting very different info everywhere I read. One person says it’s not possible another says it is. My newest info is as long as it has Ibus controls on it should work. The only thing I can’t figure out is on the ***** website it shows a picture of the harness in trunk and says if I’m missing the four pins it will not work. I am missing the four pins in the trunk and I feel like I’m the only one because nobody else has even mentioned it. I also can’t seem to find a recent post on this situation. I feel like by now someone has a more definitive answer to this. My wife bought me the unit and is getting increasingly upset that it wasn’t the right one for my car. Any help at all would be GREATLY appreciated. AS OF RIGHT NOW I HAVE POWER BUT NO SOUND......GRRRRRRR.

    Hi,

Your choices are the Dynavin N6 or the later N7, the Avin Avant 3. The brand you mention is auto blocked here due to being a sponsor and then letting down may members who purchased and who then experienced issues/problems and weren't provided with good support at all (same thing occured on 2 other forums over the last 3-5 years) My suggestion is to return the unit if you can.

The other aspect is that DSP in the E39's is bit of a relic. Some owners don't mind the sound that comes out of the OEM DSP speakers, but overall, it's universally described as 'mediocre' at best. If you are looking for a good increase in sound quality, then keeping the old DSP speakers won't give you that. If you aren't looking for much of a SQ increase, then do consider the Dynavin N6/N7 or Avin Avant 3. The Dynavin is supported very well in the USA by Jeff at J&T Distributing in Fresno California, so if you decide on the Dynavin, ONLY buy from him and nowhere else. The Avin Avant 3 is also a USA based company/product, both are significantly more expensive than the brand you purchased, that being said, they are better quality too.

Personally, my suggestion is to ditch the old DSP amp and speakers and go with a high quality premium brand head unit and a good quality 4/5 channel amplifier and entry to mid level speakers from the specialist high quality car audio speaker brands. The resulting SQ increase will be significant and over time and funds saving, you can add a subwoofer resulting in a setup that will sound far far better than keeping the old DSP amp and using a chinese head unit.

    Cheers, Dennis!

I’m not using the brand I mentioned. During my search for help I have come across people mentioning the four missing pins in the trunk harness. They used the picture from the brands website. I am not interested in changing speakers right now, only update the stock TAPE player hiding behind the nav screen. My main goal right now is find out what to do if my car is missing those pins.

this is the image with the missing pins I keep coming across.

    Hi,

So which head unit did your missus buy you ? or do you mean she purchased a harness for you?

    Cheers, Dennis!

The radio is a hizpo from China. She also purchased the extension cable to run from the original harness in trunk to the dash.

This forum blows. 140 views and one person has offered help. Waste of time on this forum.

Most of those Chinese double DIN head units are prone to failing after a few months. I would take Dennis’s advice and check out the Dynavin line of products. While the products are made in China the quality is a lot better.

Check www.newtis.info for wiring and pin info.
