Hey!
I own a BMW 316i 1.6 17xx cc Automatic from 2002.
Recently I have a problem where I have to refill my engine oil almost every 3-4 days (less than 100km a day!! ). When looking at the oil dipstick, I saw a very small number of yellow / white residue at the tip of my oil dipstick. (thought it was a head gasket but i dont think that's the case).
My engine also makes a growling noise after several minutes (when the engine is warmed up). This only happens between 2000-3000 rpm (SEE VIDEOS with sound)
- Coolant always remained the same (no leaks)
- Engine oil cap doesn't have any white residue
- No trace of engine oil leaks (ground of garage, ..)
- during a ride of 1 hour - no overheat symptoms (temperature always stayed in the middle)
- No fault codes
Someone an idea what caused this ??

I see the problem.. you have the wrong gauge cluster for your engine
But in all seriousness: if you are losing that much oil, likely your PCV ('carterventilatie') is bad. Replace it and also replace the dipstick tube and dipstick. Don't drive on for too long without fixing it..
