    A question of "taste"

Hi All and Happy Holidays to all:

I have a question and would like some feedback. My 87 730i presently rides on a set of E 39 18" M Pars as seen in the pictures on page 7 of the show us your ride thread on this board. I do use hubcentrics on the wheels and the car rides smooth with very little if any vibration.

I have on my E 24 a set of 7 1/2" 16X7 BBS RS wheels which I had completely restored by Paul Ehrlich in NC. He did a fantastic job on the wheels. I have had an offer to sell the BBS wheels. I have a set of style 66 wheels to replace them.

Being my E 32 is so original I always thought that I might replace the M Pars with the BBS RS's. The look of the car changes drastically in my opinion depending on which wheels are on it. With the M Pars the car looks very modern with the BBS RS very original. The BBS would be considered period correct as they were available at the time the 730i was produced. I have included a picture of the car with style 5 wheels from and E 38. While these wheels are not the BBS RS they are similar in look although the BBS RS are highly polished.

Any opinion on which wheels to use.87 735i 001.JPG

Zieg, you car looks beautiful with the M Par wheels. When I saw them I didn't know they were 18 inch wheels. If you switch them out for the brand new BBS wheels that have been restored, you'll for sure have a more original look, but you'll also have a softer ride. You'll be riding on two inches of more rubber. It didn't make much of a difference for me when I went from the original 15 inch stock wheels to the 17 inch Alpinas, but I think going down from 18 to 16 will give you a softer ride. Whether you're looking for that or not. I spent a lot of time checking out BBS wheels for mine before I found what I wanted overseas, and a new set of those on your car will make your 730 stunning, in my opinion. You'll get different opinions on this I'm sure, but I also think the BBS look on your car is more "Age Appropriate". Not for the car, but for guys like you and I. That last sentence took about four minutes of thought. Did not want to offend, but since I'm three years older than you are, I figured I would be allowed to throw that out there. lol

I think the M-Par's are a great looking wheel... I use Style 66 M-Parallel's as they're 17x8/17x9 and I don't want to go too low a profile with the tyres.

I've never been a fan of the BBS/Basketweave style wheels personally and they're also a pain to clean. The E39 wheels are the latest that I would put on an E32, as you said they give it a real modern appearance without looking out of place.
