ABL is usually grayed out until you actually connect to vehicle and perform a complete identification. If you search it without connection to car, it will be gray.

This what I have done from the very beginning . No sign of VANOS tests even after complete identification.
Text search gives only two ABLs as well. Also no 'dms' tests

Actually I'm looking for similar options in 'Function Structure' but no luck.
BTW, my engine is N52K 3.0si if it make sense.

Ah ok.
I use 4.06 and 4.09 and have not ran into this issue, yet.
I haven't experimented much with the N52.

Have you tried this with I-Com connected or simple USB cable ? BTW, I have tried the above versions too. All the same.
Ok, I have simulated with N55 engine and apparently it gives separate tests for camshaft and VANOS solenoids. I believe it could be N52 engine issue. Looks like ISTA can't run VANOS tests on N52
Your i-level is too low to perform VANOS tests. Update E70 (ista/p or winkfp) and all be fine.
You mean I would need to update ECU with newer F/W ?
Yes.
