I got lucky, found an MKIII for $30. I have a 98' E38, but I am wondering how to upgrade? What adapter do I need? I checked E39Source but the information is vague on what needs to be installed. Am I removing the old harness or is it a plug and play adapter? Not sure how to proceed. So 61 12 6 907 840 is all I need? Curious if the DSP amp will work as well. CD changer may need to be upgraded?

I found a 01' iL parts car at a yard. I got the part number for that harness needed for upgrading the MKI to MKIII which is 61-12-6-907-840, so, I called the dealer, gave them the VIN to the parts car and stated that this part is on the car. I looked in the trunk, can't really find it. I took some pics along with the actual harness. So, obviously I found the harness that plugged into the MKIII navi for the parts car. But the rest of those, I can't find and the harness goes up towards the rear deck and so on. But from what i can tell, that harness does not run the length of the vehicle to the front. What am I missing?
[Update]
So, no matter what the dealer said, it seems like that adapter is made specifically by BMW and is not pre-installed on E38s, no matter the build date.
