Hello, my e36 just suddenly stopped starting anymore. It cranks forever but won't start, the fuel pump is working, it has spark, crankshaft position sensor is new, camshaft position sensor got changed about 6 months ago, vanos unit is jammed since maybe 1 year but sometimes it kicks in and sometimes doesn't. It does sound like the compression is low, it has 4 bars on all cylinders but something like this can't happen like suddenly ....it has to give me some signs before it will just die because of compression so i do think it's related to other things my car is not starting. There is no water in oil or oil in water however you wanna put it, it doesn't overheat so the head gasket should be fine.
on inpa it throws the o2 sensors error, on both of them and that's all
One day i just started the car and moved it 10 cm and let it for about 30 min and when i tried to start it , it started but with misfires, poor air/fuel mixture and after that it never started again.
My question is could it be the camshaft position sensor dead again and not throwing any error code ?
What are the O2 sensor codes and how many miles on them?
Any chance you have a large vaccine leak? What condition is the rubber intake boot, any cracking?

the o2 sensors don't have more than 10k miles and the intake boot is new
You have to test fuel pressure.

+1 on what Eric said. Check fuel pressure.
Symptoms point in the direction of bad fuel pump, bad fuel pressure regulator (they can die both ways: giving too high or too low pressure), or clogged fuel filter (less probable, because symptoms first arise at high loads, not at idle).
Also, recheck cylinder compression.. Should be around 11 bar. Your meter is probably bad (is it a cheap ebay one, then throw it away; but first retest with a good quality one that cost like 100 euro; I bought a digital one and it's extremely precise). If it's really 4 bar, you won't get the engine to start anymore, or, if you do, it wil run very, very poorly. Your analysis is correct I think: the chances of all cylinders going to 4 bar all of a sudden, are virtually zero.

1997 E36 BMW 323i (European) 275k km (171k miles), with following small mods:
- Chip tuned DME (190HP/257Nm); 328i dual pipe exhaust (plug&play); Meyle HD control arms, Bilstein B4 shocks
- Fan delete mod: Stock 92C thermostat, 80/88C temp. switch, 80/20% water/coolant; INPA says temps 100% OK
- Throttle body coolant hose delete mod; Comprehensive ASC Delete option list; Solved: -30 additive adaptation values
ok, i did a recheck on cylinder compression, it's around 11-13 bar. I believe it is flooded, i will give it a try tomorrow because right now i just killed the battery so i will put it to recharge.
