Hey guys, so, I was driving home today after work, and I accidentally missed a gear, quickly pushed the clutch in and kept driving and all was fine. But a bit later, I was coming to a stop, threw it in neutral, and the car was trying to die, idling up and down super low. When i parked the car, it sounded really mean, and there was smoke coming from the engine bay. Whole engine was shaking violently. Blown motor? Blown Head gasket? maybe something to do with my cams?
It's a 1995 bmw 318i
Your valves likely kissed the pistons.
Around here they call it a money shift. It has to have been a violent rise of rpm from drivetrain spinning up the motor.
