Hey folks.
I'm collecting parts to rebuild both front and rear suspension. I'd like to meet some PDX area folks that have done this, get some advice and hear gotchas in person and possibly borrow some tools - front end ball joint pullers and rear ball joint tool. I'll likely do the work in Jan but I'm trying to get the ducks lined up so it goes as smoothly as possible. Thanks.
Your best friend for ball joints is an air chisel or hammer. I have ALWAYS destroyed ball joints with the tools, and have had much better luck with an air chisel to the stud, or hammer to the knuckle and stud with nut threaded to the top.
For the struts, my only advice is have a strong screwdriver to separate the knuckle clamp from the strut, and really compress the rear springs before removing the hat. I found they have MUCH more compression than the fronts due to how closely coiled they are.
