320d does not crank, does not click. Bump starts just fine. After a small drive the starter works, but if I leave the car for like 6 hours. No click, no start, again. Once, during the time of the issue, it worked in the morning as well, but just once. Ews module clicks , when the key is put in and ignition turned, clicks after few seconds, after removing it. Tried spare key, that I know works, because I have started the car with it before - nothing.
Scanned codes, ews module say's everything is ok. Bmw scanner even shows green next to the starter activisaton ( or something along those lines ). Have not got the chance to be under the car with a multi meter, when the problem occurs. Could it be a ignition switch issue?
Best wishes, Reinis
Im betting the starter is bad. Good on you performing the proper diagnostic tests.
Got the ignition switch out today. Disassembled it and the contacts that switch 12v to the ews, while holding the key to crank, were really dirty, almost burnt looking. Cleaned them with sandpaper. Cranks, starts as it should for now. Hope the problem is fixed, but only morning will tell.
Update!
Morning came ad still - no crank!!!
Hate intermittent problems.
Hope it still does not start, when I get home, so I can start checking other things.
I think the solution is to replace the ignition switch.
