When I get on the throttle more aggressively than normal the power train shutters and lays down with the message, "Full power not available contact service center." I pull over shut the engine down and restart and all is back to normal unless I aggressively get on the throttle.
It is quite consistent and also when sitting at idle occasionally I can feel a momentary misfire. All indications are normal.
The car has just over 65,000 miles with about 10,000 on a new dealer installed short block installed under warranty due to a small crack found in the block.
Vehicle is out of warranty and I would like to correct this issue myself if possible. Any one have any idea what it might be?
Thanks
There's absolutely no way to diagnose your incredibly complex vehicle without a BMW specific diagnostic scan tool. You can't fix it without knowing what's wrong. Realistically, no one but a BMW specialist technician should even TRY to work on your car. I'd also mention that this is a ~$90,000 flagship BMW, and that you should expect to spend over $4000 per year in maintenance and repairs, minimum.

Find a reputable indie shop that specializes in bimmers at www.bimrs.org. The shop should have all the software to properly diagnose your car’s problems.
Thanks for the response! That's what I told my wife when we bought the car. Its been great and absolutely amazingly trouble free for the five years we have owned it. She seems to think that just because I am an aircraft mechanic and Auto restorer I should be able fix it. Ill find a competent independent shop I not taking it back to the stealership for sure.

Shadowpuck is reminding you that the term "stealership" is VERY much frowned upon at this forum. Dealerships are honest, straightforward businesses, and they're more highly regulated and scrutinized than indie shops. We have, on this forum, dealer techs, indie techs, very experienced DIY owners, racers....you name it. We're all here to help others, and to learn.
By badmouthing dealerships with a term like that, you're essentially calling tens of thousands of honest people thieves, and that's not nice.

You are right and I apologize for using the term. I am new to the forum and in the future I will certainly refrain from making negative comments as I am sure the site will offer invaluable incite and assistance as our wonderful 750I ages. That said, I do have an update on the power out put problem. I had a friend read the codes with a generic code reader while the engine was in its limp mode. Cylinder no 7 showed a misfire. I ordered a new coil pack and took 15 mins to replace it. Problem solved!
Merry Christmas
