I tried to figure out how to delete my original question concerning the three transmission codes so I'm not cluttering up the page but couldn't figure it out. So I've got 3 tranny codes p0700 p0721 p1732 and the transmission won't engage. Towed the car home and just today got time to dig into it. Background on the car is that it's a 2003 325i with about 130k miles, has been maintained well and has been absolutely bulletproof. Never leaked oil, never any problems other than typical maintenance issues. So as soon as I got it on ramps a good amount of oil spilled out from the guard protecting the motor. Checked oil and it's pretty completely off the stick. Oil was checked about 2 weeks prior to problem and it was fine. So, the tranny codes, the tranny slipping so severely that it won't engage and a really bad engine oil leak. What could cause all of those at the same time? It can't all be a coincidence. If it matters, engine never got hot and coolant level is fine. I'm sure Ill have to get it in a shop but just hoping somebody can give me a likely cause of all this - it seems really strange to me.
Maybe it is a transmission fluid leak. There are lines running to the transmission cooler under the expansion tank. Original transmission fluid is not red. It is similar in color to engine oil.
