Car won't crank with EWS Deleted/ ABS Questions

I am in the process of building a full race car. I removed the entire harness from the car and removed all the unnecessary wiring. I sent out my DME to EPIC to get the EWS delete (MS43). After reinstalling the stripped harness and the DME the car will not crank over. Fuel pump turns on, but no crank.

Could this be an ABS issue? There is no brake fluid in the car as the brakes are being rebuilt right now as well. Does the ABS pump need to prime for the car to start? Need fluid in the reservoir for the clutch switch to work?

    Any advice would be appreciated.

No, you can run the car with the ABS totally unplugged or even removed. I suspect some sort of immobolizer relay, but not sure what the e46 has? Does the fuel pump prime, or runs constantly? If it primes, I think the DME is doing it's job. Can you try push starting it, or jump some +12V directly to the starter solenoid?

Ok that's good to know. Thanks.

I believe all the immobilizer stuff should be disabled with the EWS delete. At least I would hope so as I removed all the wiring associated with the security system.

The fuel pump just primes, does not run constantly.

Bump starting isn't an option right now as the car is partially disassembled (no brakes!).

Maybe I've just forgotten to hook up a ground somewhere...

Yeah, I would check that the starter is getting +12V constant, and that you're seeing +12v while cranking on the solenoid wire. If no crank voltage, at least you know it's not the starter Are you using the key? Maybe just wire in a push button start and eliminate all that crap.

Two basic things to check - engine ground is the first one and the lead from ignition switch to the starter is the second one.

The ews unit contains a relay which connects pin 1 to pin 2 on ews unit. One of them is input from ignition switch, the other one is to the starter. Do you still have the ews connector on the car?

Otherwise, without ABS I believe you will have a vehicle speed error and the engine will run in limp mode. Not sure about your engine but older M52 even had a rev limiter in 5196 RPM when no vehicle speed signal was received from the car

    Solved!

Fx323i was correct above. I had removed the EWS unit and all the wiring, however, the wires on pins 1 and 3 need to be retained. The black wire with the blue tracer from the ignition switch (S2) needs to be jumped to the black wire that runs to connector X6011 in the engine bay near the DME. You can jump them in the connector using a typical blade fuse (use one at least 10 amps) or de-pin the connector and use a butt connector.

Shout out to John at Bimmerworld as well for the help.
