I know I’ve seen these before and I’m on my 3rd set of rubber ones since I’ve owned the car does anyone know where to get them? I’m talking about the little rubber mounts that always break on our oil filter housings. I saw an M5 that had some metal ones and I want them.
You're not r/r the cap correctly. You need to counteract the torque on the cap to prevent tearing the mounts. Use a 6x1.0x50 mm bolt threaded into the boss on the front of the canister to provide a handle. I've covered mine with a length of rubber hose.
The cap need not be super tight: Once fully seated, the new O-ring seals the canister.
I'd be willing to bet that the dealer has a "special tool" for this.

That’s a bunch of work for nothin, rather just have better mounts. I always hold it with my hand to keep it from twisting but my guess is they just get old and dry out like everything else.
Those rubber mounts just get old over the years. Just unscrew and replace them. They are pretty cheap : About 2 Dollars at Napa auto parts stores (BMW oemPart # 11421436982).
I'd just replace them with stock rubber ones... there's no need to reinvent the wheel. I replaced mine two years ago and 45k miles later they're still fine, even after a whole bunch of oil changes.
