Power steering pump fluid capacity - 740il ATF fluid

    Guys,

In my endless pursuit of getting rid of some belt squeal noise I'm replacing my power steering pump, it's leaking anyway.
Any idea how much fluid I would need to refill the system after putting in the new pump?
I'm not finding this info anywhere.

    Thanks!

Never mind, it appears to be 2.4L https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...supply/5kTQdGD

E38 740iL with self levelling 2.5 liters in total based on a German website. But when you replace the pump, not all the liquid will come out from the SLS system.
My E32 750iL with SLS needs total 2.8 liters, when I repaired my double vane pump with a new seal set, I needed for a refill 2 liters, but to be on the save side, better buy 3 liters

self leveling was an option on the 740s and standard on the 750s. It basically raises or lowers the rear of the car to compensate for weight in the trunk or the back seat using hydraulics driven by the power steering pump.

couple of ways to check if you have it:

If your power steering fluid reservoir cap says that it requires atf, then you don't, if it says you require chf 11s, then you do. Another way to make sure is to take one of the rear wheels off, if you have a regular strut back there then you don't. if you have a hydraulic line going into the rear struts, then you do.

or you could just decode your vin to see if it was optioned with it.
