I know someone around here hasta know what P17E9 is.
You should be reading BMW manufacturer codes. P codes are almost useless.

- 2000 Z3: Many Mods.

- 2014 328d Wagon, self-tuned, 270hp/430ft-lbs
- 2019 M2 Competition, self-tuned, 504whp
- 2016 Mini Cooper S
And when they're not useless, they're just plain wrong.
Just for S&G, I went to Alldata, a professional website, and looked up your vehicle, and looked up P-codes for it.
P17E9 doesn't exist anyway. Get a BMW specific scan tool.

Thanks guys - yeah, since this thread post I've been researching installing INPA software and getting that K+DCAN cable - on the fence as to going with this mac software I found or installing a mirror windows xp thing to install the free software someone on another site sent me.
If I were to take an educated guess, it's for transmission gear ratio monitoring for 4-5 gear.
But you should still use BMW diagnostics, not P codes.

Funny you say that, I'd read on another bmw forum where a guy had the same code and that wound up being his exact issue - apparently he only cleaned the mass air flow sensor and all was well. Man would that be nice - also read somewhere else that the crankshaft position sensor was the culprit, which ain't an easy thing to get to. Was going to start today with cleaning that mass air flow but the day got away from me...
Regardless I'm searching for a used windows laptop running xp 32bit so I can install the sp-daten software sent to me so I'll always have a dedicated coding machine for under $100 so I can't complain. I've read a lot of issues others have had by running parallels or a virtual box thing on the mac in order to run that software so I figure just get a used one plus I won't have to added panic about dragging my personal laptop in and outta the house...
