Salesman at the dealership advised using at least 89 octane, never 87, stating the engine may act up, etc.
Curious and looking for advice on what the norm/best is for the 2.0 liter 4 cyl in the 2016 320i.

I highly recommend against 87. Put some by accident once and sure enough, had a CEL soon after. 89 may be ok, but the difference to 91 is usually small that I would go with 91 esp. if you drive aggressively.
