    Random faults appear?

So story starts from a overvoltage fault code, over 16v. I have changed new AGM battery (coded and registered) and also new voltage regulator (alternator looked like it was changed 2013). After all that I'm still getting the overvoltage fault code sometimes. I looked from the TIS, and as high as 15,5v is normal and should be limited to that (even 16v if the battery is cold enough, but it hasn't been that cold yet on Finland): https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/e...ontrol/YRovfk4

And lately the car has been randomly telling me SZL fault, parking brake failure and transmission failure (when you just unlock the doors and open it). SZL needs car to be restarted to go away. Other faults just appear once and go away.

I ordered used Power module to see if it helps. I hope the random fault's are because of the overvoltage. But any other thoughts?

    My car 07/2004 730d.

These are the codes I pulled after.

The problem with over voltage eventually it's going to damage a module. There are two things to check charging voltage and ac leakage or feed back from the alternator if that is over 2.5 then it's to high, also the ever important intelligent battery sensor, (ibs), which is part of the Negative battery cable, it is the sensor that controls how the alternator charges. We had a car towed in that had the alternator replaced a few times, but the voltage was way to high, the ibs sensor was fried. We don't replace the voltage regulator, we replace the whole alternator and then check the charging voltage and ac leakage of the new alternator.

Well, on E65 there is no IBS on negative cable. It's the power module that controls the charging system. Gotta wait for the new module to arrive, as I bought it from ebay. Replace it and go from there.

EDIT: today it showed up again, I just unlocked the door and *bling* transmission failsafe was on the instrument cluster for few seconds and then it went away and car works normally. No fault codes on the transmission either.

Probably found the cause for the overvoltage issue. Since I got engine preheater and batter charger together. Every time car was warming for next morning and the battery charged I got the transmission fault and overvoltage code. Now I took off the charger and no problems so far.

But the power module should pick up the charger in an hour and know's how to deal with it so I will gonna change the module.

Also this code popped up today... Might be wiring or SGM related.

Power module changed. It has been -5c outside and I can now see 14,6v-15,1v. I think that the old module was bad after all.

Well, yet another CAN related fault code had appeared. Though I haven't seen DSC light to light up... So the problem whent away pretty quickly I guess.

But after searching on that code, I might have found the reason and cause for the CAN issues... At least hopefully. Gotta check these ASAP:
