I just picked up an E39 540i, and **excuses-excuses** put about 4 oz of brake fluid into the power steering (ATF) reservoir.
What should I do?
e34 540i/6 :: e30 M62/6 :: e30 318is :: c5 Z06
Drain out the brake fluid + ATF mixture from a low pressure hose connection and replace the ATF with fresh fluid.

If you can, disconnect that hose at the bottom, and it will all run out.
Did you start the engine with the brake fluid in the reservoir? If so you need to drain and flush the whe whole system.
In the words of Homer Simpson.... DOH!!!!
Set the controls for the heart of the sun
Pull all the fluid out of the reservoir (turkey baster) disconnect the return line plug the opening in the reservoir. Place the end of the return line in a large ‘catch’ container.
Fill the reservoir with fresh (cheap ATF) and start the engine, cycling the steering wheel full lock both directions, refill reservoir and repeat a couple of times to flush the system. Replace the reservoir (there is a built in filter), connect the hoses and fill the reservoir. Start the car, cycle the steering and check the level in the reservoir.

I thought yer kid wuz supposed to work on this car? Maybe let yer kid work on this car!!!
bluptgm3 is right. That is the easiest method by dilution.
- Use standard Dexron-III fluid, just drain from reservoir, add new fluid, run the engine with steering wheel going to R and L.
- Then repeat the cycles about 5-6 times, all the brake fluid should be down to 1% or so.
PS: If you never started the engine, then drain from the PS Reservoir via bottom hose, add new fluid and you are good to go.
