Hello, I have a 1983 320is that I wanna swap. My preferred method would be pop an m42 that I would build and turbo it before I throw it in. But any other ideas or methods of swaps would be great. As long as all the big v8’s stay out of this. I want to keep it a 4 banger with a turbo setup. Thanks

Personally I would just do the m42. It's been done before, drops in with minimal modifications, and is a good fit. Plus even on stock internals and headgasket you can run around 10 psi with good usable power.
With that said, a nice k24 using Kmiata trans adapter to a Getrag would be a sweet setup. I think you are going to run into oil pan mods, custom intake stuff, header, engine management, etc. which end up being possibly both expensive and labor intense. I recommend watching Speed Academy videos on their 240sx Kswap to get a good idea of just how much will be required. I'm fairly sure the front subframe issues they ran into will be pretty similar to an e21. Kmiata is currently putting together a kit to fit the e30 chassis, so I think a lot of what they put together for it "may" work for the e21.
An f20c would be sweet as well like mentioned above, but they are just so expensive of a donor.
