Hello guys,
After many years of Lexus LS (kind of boring) I would like to go back to BIMMER World. I used to have 2001 740i SPORT and LOVED the car but got very tired of repairs.
Now, we are relocated and I am facing a log drive (40 miles each way) to work.
I love the X5 looks and want to know what do you say about 3.0 diesel option, 2012 - 2015 years ?
Is It reliable ? Its very important to me, I drive about 20 000 miles a year.
Should I get extended warranty?
What is MPG do you usually get ?
Thank you very much and Happy Holidays !

The older X5 diesel up to ~2011 was not very reliable regarding the emissions equipment.
The newer ones have been improved quite a bit, but it's still some of the emissions stuff (EGR, def system sensors) that still has issues, just different than the older ones.
Engines were solid otherwise, emissions reliability wasn't too much.

Just bought a 2012 x5 35d and dont regret it at all. The car has an open recall on it for the idler pulley which mine is currently in the shop for. I am having a horrible time with the dealership in regards to customer service but I would still deal with this all again if it means I get to have this car.
My only regret about the X5 is not getting it sooner! And the diesel is great! Plus with a 2010 to 2013 there are some nice upgrades you can do to the diesel engine
Hello,
I drive a 2015 xDrive 35d since June 2018, and it's the best diesel car/SUV I ever had. I'm a diesel fan for many years and I owned many diesel car: VW Golf D, VW Jetta TD, VW Passat TDi, MB ML320, MB GLK 250, BMW X5 35D.
Average fuel consumption is 8.2L/100km (28.7 mpg), 70% stop and go in the traffic. On the highway consumption is very good, and you can drive for more than 1050 km (650 miles) per tank.
The X5 is a very solid car, well equipped (mine as the M package), but the tire replacement cost is on of the concern I have. Next summer, I'll look for a cheaper alternative to the melting PZero OEM tires (Rear tires needs to be replaced every 15 000 km - 10 000 miles)
