So after replacing valve cover, o2 sensor, and clearing all the codes, I took the car for the emissions and safety inspection today, so that I can renew my plates. We passed the safety inspection fine, but failed the emissions test. The tech said that we needed to compete the "drive cycle" before all the sensors were recording properly and he could sign off on the test. He said there weren't any codes, or air leaks, but that the sensors won't pass until the drive cycle is complete. He told us he didn't know the drive cycle for out car, does anyone have the drive cycle instructions for a 2012 BMW 128i? I know you have to start from cold, run the car for a certain amount of time, at a certain speed, then decelerate and idle in gear for another time period, I just don't have that info.
Get up tomorrow morning and go for a nice freeway drive, maybe thirty miles out and thirty back. If you have a decent OBD tool, iyt should be able to tell you how many parameters are set, and how many are not. Here in western NC, they used to allow 1 parameter to be unset. As of December 1st, we no longer have emissions inspection here !

Ok, well try that, he told us 3 are set, 3 are unset, and all 6 have to be reporting.
