I am currently trying to swap a M54B30 from a E39 530i to my 1997 M44 Z3.
Here is what I have found out so far:
Need to get wiring harness from a later model Z3 that came stock with the M54B30 as the current wiring harness in the Z3 won't work as well as the wiring harness from the E39.
Need to swap over DMEs since the DME currently in the Z3 is different than what is in the later model Z3 and the E39 (both use MS43).
Need to flash M54 Z3 engine management tuning to E39 DME since I have heard that using the tuning for the E39 could result in problems.
Also it appears that the m44 Z3, the m54 Z3, and the E39 all have different EWS modules.
Questions:
Is one of these wiring harnesses for the engine and one for the transmission?
How do I get the DME in the E39 to be compatible in the Z3? Can I use software like DIS, PA, INPA, Simon, or PROGMAN to synch the DME to the EWS even though they will have different ISN?
Is there going to be issues with the DME and EWS since the EWSs are different versions? The Z3 currently has EWS2 and the E39 has EWS4.3 I believe.
How do I tune the E39 DME to be optimized for the Z3?
I am willing to pay someone to help me sort all this out, if it is something that is overly involved.
Really hoping someone can share some insight about all this.
Thanks!
