Thinking of buying a 2007 Z4 3.0I this weekend. Please advise me. I have a 1999 M Roadster. I will be keeping that but I want a automatic as a local daily driver. Price is around $10k with low mileage.
Is there anything negative that I should know before buying? I'm trying to do a crash course tonight on this car before I consider buying it. Thanks in advance.
Do you plan to get a prepurchase inspection? Do you have a BMW specific scan tool?
I have a 2006 M Roadster and a 2007 Z4 3.0I parts car - owned both less than a year so not a great gauge. But they seem to suffer from the same BMW specific problems. There should be a recall for the 2007 3.0I regarding a PCV heater that may short and cause a fire even when not in use: https://www.cars.com/recalls/bmw-z4-2007/
The N52 engine has typical oil leak issues. Also they suffer from an issue with the serpentine belt getting sucked into the engine and causing major issues: https://autoscope.co/car-repair/bmw-...inside-engine/
Just be sure the serpentine belt is newer and the tensioner as well.
Hope other longer term owners have better feedback.
Always get a pre purchase inspection no matter who is selling it
I'm kind of a gear head myself so I usually trust my own judgement (aka cheap).
The dealer had it inspected. Showed they recommended like $1900 of work. Some was really needed. Some was more fluff. Biggest was tranny seal had slight leak $1000 and bent rear wheel $120.
The car drove like a dream. So much easier to drive than my 1999 Mroadster stick. It looked to be in very good condition. Has 44,000 miles but I walked. They had it listed at $10,999 but after $660 tax and all their fees it was at $13,000. I really do not like a $700 "dealer fee". Showed no inclination to budge on price. They had it priced at full retail for outstanding condition but with $1900 of work showing in their report I do not consider that outstanding condition.
You don't say what part of the country you are in. Are you in the snowbelt or in the sunshine?
