Rather new here so bear with me,i had a new compressor fitted about a year ago along with the dryer and valve-then went overseas for a month came back and no cold air,i have taken it back to the company that fitted the new part i supplied though they said it leaked from the top of the compressor,i went and got another opinion to be told they leak from the front not the top though the old bloke said it could be the condenser...A year later i have taken the front nose off the car as i have a spare from a 535i I use as a parts car and was going to fit cracked the fillister head on the condenser pipe to find plenty of gas is present and has not leaked, the fan was tested while out and no problems, all fuses in regards to the A/C are fine, microfilter has not been replaced anything electrical i need to know as mechanically the A/C seems sound, any help would be appreciated.
Two different shops gave three different ideas as to where there's a leak? Sounds like nobody actually checked with dye or a sniffer.
Is the compressor turning on? Do you have pressure numbers for the cold and hot side?
i did not get any numbers from anyone Moroza, just a lot of talk though i still have gas in the lines as it was the green dye i saw when i briefly cracked the nut and closed it so i doubt i have a leak, compressor as far as i know is working being a new part though come Monday i may have to get a auto sparky to check it
Compressor may be perfectly healthy but the electrical systems turning it on - pressure switches among other things - may be malfunctioning. Look at the compressor pulley while the engine's running. If the outside (driven by a belt from the main crankshaft pulley) is turning but the center isn't, the compressor is not running. If the center part is spinning - often with an audible click as it engages, and a palpable load on the engine - but air is still not cold, we've got deeper problems.
Green dye is good, means whoever last charged it has at least a basic idea of what they're doing. Do you see that green dye anywhere other than where you cracked a line?

No ! i did have another tech look at it though all he did was use a uv light to tell me if it was leaking,he saw some old dye on the condensor and told me to look at that though i think your right it is pointing more to a electrical issue, thanks for the heads up !
Would like to know where the a/c relay is located on a e34 1994 520i the frost switch is on yet the clutch is not engaging all fuses are good has one wire to compressor and a earth which is sound i have looked through the posts here and online so far cant find where it is located
Got wiring diagrams? They give component locations as well, though these are specific to the US market and may be different from yours.
Going to bite the bullet mate and take it into the auto sparky thanks though for your comments Moroza
