AUX input for e38 DSP without nav

I have searched and searched and searched this forum and the net for any solutions to find a way to play an iPod/iPhone through a stock 97 e38 DSP non nav. I’ve contacted bavaudio and grom and they say they have nothing. I’ve seen a couple writeups on how to open the head unit and solder an aux cable into the cd circuitry and I’ve seen some method to tap into the tape deck wiring. I don’t need Bluetooth (that’d be great don’t get me wrong) but I would happy with a simple aux hookup. I’m not sure why 98 e38 with DSP have no problems with adapters but the 97 DSP non nav does. Does the nav change something I’m not aware of or are the people I’m emailing just not understanding a non nav can still be a DSP (even though I tried to make that clear)? Any ideas would be really helpful, thanks!

    Easy:

Both utilize the CD changer input (can no longer use CD changer). Grom says 98+ but works for all I-bus radios from '96+. Nav or no nav: makes no difference.

if you have a tape deck, tap into those pre-amp wires on the back side of the headunit. Then all you need is a empty cassette tape to insert for when you want aux input. This mod is on my list!

I've used http://factoryradioservice.com/. Pretty, pretty, pretty good. In the '95 740i, the stock tape deck under the flip-up panel is modified with an accessory plug-in, which I mounted to a lower plastic blank panel. It looks good and sounds great. It switches to the new input when a male headphone cable is plug'd in.
