I'd like to put a set of snow tires on a 2001 330Ci, but I'm having trouble finding a set of wheels to put them on. I'm running a set of Style 68s, and I believe they're staggered—7.5" up front and 8.5" in the rear. Should I keep the stagger for snows, or go down to 7" or 7.5" all around?
TireRack has some 16s that are purported to fit over the brake calipers, but I don't like the look of them. So, I'd like to find a set of four 7x17" wheels, but they seem quite hard to find vs 7.5x17". It probably doesn't make much of a difference to go from 205/50-17 to 225/45-17, but I wouldn't mind maxing out my snow capability.
I guess I'm soliciting advice for sourcing narrow 16" or 17" wheels that will fit over the calipers and look fairly stock...To my shock, steel wheels are hard to find—TireRack sells some for $100ea (!!!), but they're black, which won't work for me.
Craig's list is your friend here. I can't remember, but there are probably some 16" wheels that should fit. Tire size for 16" is 205/55R16. Tire size for a 7" or 7.5" 17" wheel is 205/50R17 - that's what I had on my '01 330xi. All offsets should be 46mm (don't buy E9x/F3x wheels.)
Somewhere there is a list of wheels for E46. Maybe E46fanatics. Maybe bimmerfest E46 section.
Here's a set in Maple Valley, WA: https://seattle.craigslist.org/skc/w...763790992.html
Why not buy 4 (!) steel wheels for the car and mount snow tires on them? Cheap
alloys are cheap fir a reason: they’re crap. Hit a bad pothole and you’ve got a very badly bent alloy. Go with steel! I had steels and snows for my departed 2001 330Ci after going through cheap alloys.
I have 17" from an e53 with staggered rubber. works fine though i would rather have matched set and all 225 or less.
my 16" from 2002 325ci wouldnt fit, wasnt even close.
I agree cragislist or local used site is best.
