    528i odometer discrepancy

Hello I'm new to this forum & trying to find some help on here regarding an issue I'm having with a 528i. Here's my situation, I bought a 2008 528i at an auction here in town. My son drove it home & it drove great. I haven't received the title yet. Supposedly there is a delay with the title. Anyways when I had bid on the car the odometer read 88355 miles, after I paid for the vehicle + taxes & fees i was told there was a discrepancy with the mileage reading although auction personal did not know what it was as they did not have the title as of yet. Did a carfax report & found that mileage should be 150001 not 88355. I have read some threads where if there is a problem in what the ecu has in memory or an issue with with the instrument cluster there will be "tamper" dot between the odometer reading & trip log. The car does have a dot in that location. How would I get the odometer to read what it should? I'm taking the key to the dealer so they can read the information of it I guess because actual mileage is stored also in the key. Can any one point me in the proper direction?

So I took the key to the dealer & had it scanned and now there's something not kosher going on. Service adviser scanned the key fob 3 times as the reading was coming back as a different car & mileage, came back as a 08 X5 with 10,000,000 miles. Adviser & tech scanned the fob at a different scanner & came back the same info. Neither tech or adviser can explain why the 528i is even starting. Any one have any ideas?

Sounds like someone swapped the DME, CAS & keys. Should be a VIN on the label of the DME.

I just got home & checked the DME & it does not have the correct vin. Is it possible to have the DME, CAS & Key programmed to the correct vin & mileage by reading the LCM? Also have DTC U1126.

I'm not familiar with all of the effects of DME/CAS/Key swap. Searching one of the coding forums should reveal where mileage info is stored. In previous Bimmers two modules kept track, but I don't recall the DME being one of them. Tamper dot would light when mileage difference was detected. Question is was the DME/CAS/Keys swapped because of a DME failure or to mask the real mileage? Sounds like you're in a good position to renegotiate price. This could be an expensive fix. Keep us posted.

Reminds me of a 1998 E35 540iA that I had on Spain... I bought it with 120,000 km and soon decided to replace the dash because of the pixel failures. Took it to the shop and when they hooked it up they found out through another of the computers that it had an extra 80,000 km on it and of course had to set it to the real mileage. Not long after that there were reports in the papers of some mobile mechanics traveling around to used car dealers offering "rollback" services. In your case, though, it seems more like someone had to switch out all the modules because they weren't operating correctly vs. deliberately trying to manipulate the odometer.
