Hi all,
Does anyone here know the differences between a F-gen Getrag GS6-17BG and a E-gen GS6-17BG?
For example, a F30 320i/328i GS6-17BG vs a E46 325ci GS6-17BG.
Also how much HP/Torque can these gearboxes handle? Factory claims the F-gen gearbox to be good up to 350NM. Wondering what the actual limit is.
Thanks!
(Building a turbo M50, the extra gear will allow me to run a ridiculously high diff ratio, yes I know about the ZF320s, got plenty of them)
The GS6-37bz is the only gearbox I have seen discussions on (I assume the 17BG is similar). Specifically the E46 and early e90 ones that share a similar pilot bearing design as the e46 (I.e. you can use the 330i flywheel on your m50 to make it work). Typically the discussions on this transmission are if you are not planning to boost, it is a smooth shifting transmission for someone who wants a 6th gear. I wouldn't expect it to hold up though under a lot of torque, i know i've read about boosted e90 guys that were trying to convert over to the 335i transmission after breaking their transmission.
