I recently had to change the transfer case actuator as the motor failed, I used an aftermarket part that came with a new resistor fitted. Afterwards I went through the replaced procedure using DIS v57 but I could not clear the VTG 54C8 error - resistor value implausible and the 4x4 warning light stays on.
I tried the reset resistor and replaced actuator operations and whilst the resistor value did reset to classification C the replaced actuator would not run. Instead I got the message cannot run without causing harm.
As a last resort I put the original resistor back on but after resetting the classification (now H) it still says value implausible and won’t run the replaced actuator program. The 4x4 light is still on.
Any help or advice welcome.
Thanks
I’ve got this same fault code. Did you get it resolved?

Wel certainly if the part is not the exact replacement that could be a problem what is the deal about the resistor.
54c8 - This code gets set commonly when the actuator clutch in the T-Case has a problem. It means that the value of resistance the actuator needs to fully engage the T-Case is different than what it actually took. The common reason is that the case has not been serviced and needs new fluid. Another cause is that the connection to the servo is corroded and the motor does not get full voltage.
