Started getting a low whining sound at highway speeds a few weeks ago and first thought it was wind noise due to a new roof box I installed. Took roof box off but noise was still there. Today the noise got a lot louder (more like a howl) when accelerating even very lightly at highway speeds, around 2k rpm and up. Coming up a hill and accelerating a bit harder to try and figure out the noise, I got an engine malfunction notification. Got home, scanned codes and it’s a 30FF code so something related to the turbos and boost pressure.
Did a bunch of googling, checked vacuum lines (used a mity-vac to test pressure) and tried to check all other turbo related pipes but couldn’t find anything wrong.
Is this likely a problem with the turbos themselves? Here’s a video of the sound revving it in the garage. I have to rev it up to around 5-6k rpm for the noise to appear but at highway speeds I get it at just 2k rpm:

Also just noticed a lot of blue/white smoke on acceleration... not good eh?
Seems like the turbo maybe? Take a look at this post and hear how his sound seems similar to yours: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=1650521
They had to rev it up high as well to hear the howl.
There was also another post saying it may be a cracked intake manifold, however the sound is not the same as yours: http://forum.bmw5.co.uk/topic/110105...fked-or-is-it/
So I would assume check everything for vacuum leaks and inspect the turbos?
