This car's name is Rocket. I bought it 5-6 years ago (now the 4th owner) from a local guy who got it as a salvage/repair. It has has 95K miles. It is a rare, 1st year 12 cylinder 6-speed. Yes.
To be perfectly transparent . . .
The VIN lists Rocket as Red w/black int., but it has tan interior. I never got the skinny on the reason for the salvage, but my guess is it was a flood car.
It has a Japanese JDM M70 engine because the PO blew up the original engine. The replacement engine had 42K on it when it was installed at the car's 78K. That means that the engine now has about 70K on it. It has a 2221 code that I've never gotten fixed. The cruise doesn't work and the CD changer in the trunk has a broken lid. The lumbar doesn't work. Never wrecked as far as I and the PO know, researched, and inquired. I've looked this car over and under very closely and can't find any signs of a wreck or flood. Otherwise, normal road wear. There is only one little spot of rust on the corner of the sunroof, but I sanded and touched it up when I got it and it hasn't changed. It is always garaged.
What I've done:
Had all the pixels in the MID repaired, but a couple of buttons don't work because they are plastic and of course, plastic breaks. But you can access all the information using the steering wheel stalk.
New staggered M-parallels with new tires and to this day, they still look new. Still have the original M-parallels with tires that aren't staggered. Also have the original aluminum (not throwing star) wheel with brand new tires.
Lowered with new springs.
Installed bucket at the top of the rear shock and the kit on the other shock.
Tinted windows.
Replaced the headliner.
Repaired the sunroof.
Fully reconditioned the leather seats (Leatherique is amazing!)
Recently flushed and changed the filter on both the PS and the Oil.
Everything else works great. Sunroof, windows, headlights, brakes, steering, seat controls and memory, exhaust, AC is cold.
How does it perform . . .
Amazingly! Very fast. Stops on a dime. Steers perfectly straight. Very comfortable. Rides and handles amazingly! Of course, it's a supercar!
Why am I selling . . .
I have 5 cars and I want a cushy car. Wife says I can't build another garage (I already have 2), so something has to go. The 850i has the least sentimental value compared to my other cars, so Rocket will be the one to go.
Seriously though. . .
Maybe Rocket won't be the perfect "collector's car" because of the engine and the salvage title. And yes, this 27 year old car could use a handy guy to fix the little stuff. But, if we just jumped in and started it up and drove off, like everyone who's ever ridden in the car with me, you would think the car is amazing and perfect. It idles like it's not even running. The 6-speed shifts bolt-action smooth. I pulls like a train and dives into curves with abandon. You could buy a a lot of cars for what I expect to get for this one and not have near the bang for the buck.
Oh, did I mention that I showed it at the EuroFest in Greenville SC at the BMW Zentrum a few years ago against other 850's from all over the country and won 1st place? Got tons of compliments!
But with the above mentioned stuff, I'm not expecting 12-15 grand like they are bringing these days. I'm taking offers and can talk all you want about it, but the first offer I like can buy it. Don't miss out just because it isn't the "perfect" 850.

Alec,
i can can take some tomorrow for you.
but if you’ve seen an 850 12 cyl, albeit a clean one, then you’ve seen mine.
totally stock except for the computer chips. They let the engine breath better around 4500-5500 rpm.
its kinda like nitrous, best as I can describe it anyway.
ill post some in the morning.
Any chance you could just tell us how much you want for her?

The dash, yes the CEL is on, but it’s always on, but sometimes, it just turns itself off for awhile. Anyway, this car is so clean,. B5043A06-53CA-4B42-892A-E753FDF42EAF.jpg

I can see by the odometer, that I misspoke. Rocket actually has 110k miles.

And not to put too fine a point on it, the first offer that I like will own Rocket. I know what she’s worth, and so do all of you. You also know that I don’t expect to get what she’s worth. So make me an offer that’s fair. You will not be disappointed.
Thanks Dickie. I appreciate it.

Forum rules you have to post a price or did that change?
Oh, thanks a lot. Just when I sold my wagon and looking for another car, you have to go and post this nice looking car for sale. Thanks a blinking lot. Love it, great looking car. I'll be in touch.
Lets get the party started before it's my bedtime.
I said I wasn’t looking for $12k-$15k like most of the 8’s are bringing.

I remember you too! That was a super awesome day. I wasn't expecting any kind of prize and when I got People's Choice, I flipped out!
I'm not sure if I'll get another BMW. I'd kinda like a 1999 Cadillac. I know, what a fork in the road!!! ha. I guess it happens to everyone who when they get
close to 60!
I’m thrilled to say I’m the buyer for this car. I had to drop off the CSi with the trucking company yesterday, and I made my mind up that I had to keep an E31 in my life. Really looking forward to owning “Rocket” and I appreciate Dickie’s help in getting a deal done. She’s going to a good home!
