Post Replacing my bad battery BMW Z4 3.0l is 2007

My 07 BMW Z4 would not start this morning. It has 47,000 miles on it. The battery is from 2012. I bought the car in November of 2017.I checked the voltage and it was at 11.2 volts. It should be around 12 or more volts. The battery had a dead cell after I did a load test to see. I had to replace it. I did a lot of research online and made many phone calls. I got some good information from a bmw dealership out side my state. I found out that bmw owners only have to register there battery if you go from a AGM battery to a lead acid or from a lead acid to a AGM battery. You can tell what your OME battery is by its color. If you have a white BMW OME battery it is a lead acid battery. If you have a black color battery it is a AGM battery.

I installed me a duralast battery for $172.00 with 780 CCA at 48AH rating with a five year warranty. Autozone said I needed an H5 battery went it actually was a H7 that was the right fit. My OME battery was a 640CCA at 80 AH battery. I called bavauto and spoke with one of there technician to verify that I could go from 640CCA to 780CCA without damaging any electrical components. They said no, it would not. They did say though not to go below the OME CCA’s.

1- Battery registration is NOT POSSIBLE for any of the Z4 E85 vehicles (E85 DO NOT have the IBS module or IBS battery terminal sensors to accept battery registration or programming).

You can check the following video to see how an IBS sensor would look like and where it should have been located if you had one:

I have attempted to register my 2007 Z4 E85's car battery in the past using INPA, Tool 32 and ISTA and the battery registration function was grayed out!

2-I have been using Walmart’s German made ever-start H7 battery (800 CCA, 1000 crancking amps) for over a year now with no problems. I think i got it for only $150.

Same battery I picked up at Walmart on my way to pick up the Z4 I ended up purchasing.
I hooked it straight up after finding the battery installed at a stupid low voltage(~1.4v).
    Car started right up.

Got that 'bad' 11 month old Interstate battery replaced under warranty.
Walmart battery is still sitting out in my garage.

This is good information to have "out there."

I replaced the battery in my wife's 07 Z4 a couple years ago. At that time I had read about Battery Registration being needed on this car. I had also read that it wasn't needed. I had one hell of a time getting a straight answer that I trusted. Many hours of reading many threads on the subject.

Eventually I bought and replaced the battery myself. Been fine for years now. Probably due again.

This should be a sticky if it's not already.
