Hey thanks man, good to hear from you. Have you seen the cypress green early E24 on Portland craigslist? I'm sure its a complete basket case, but it would be cool to have a green car to break up the brownness

Likewise, been a while - glad to see you are still keeping at it. I have seen it. You should go for it. Would be a nice, period correct line up...and you love the oddball colours

I dug the E23 out of the garage this morning and went down to Eugene for the first Classic Euro Cars&Coffee of the year. I've been having trouble with the battery not holding a charge, even after putting it on a battery tender for a couple weeks it wouldn't come back. So I went to AutoZone early this morning and swapped it out for a proper sized group 48 AGM battery. Took a few pictures at the cool building across the street from where we meet up. It was nice to get the old girl out and go for a cruise, even though it was a cold and foggy day.

impressive - really impressive - one thing i dont think you mentioned - how does the car ride on the new springs/shocks combo? How does it brake now?

    cheers

Thanks! I think it rides nicely for what it is. Not too firm, handles freeway speed expansion joints nicely. I do think the rear could benefit from being a tad firmer, but I am no expert. It is fun on the windy backroads, but I would not call it nimble. That isn't the goal of the car anyways. It brakes nicely now, straight and true with no more binding issues.

Haven't added anything to this thread for a while! Unfortunately most of the car meets and events have been canceled this year due to Covid19, but I did finally get the 733 out and cleaned up for a drive. Took the wifey and dog on a nice run up Marys Peak, the tallest point in the Coast Range mountains. It was a beautiful day for a drive, and felt good to be behind the wheel of the 7 again after sitting for a few months. Thought I would share some photos.

Thanks for all this information and pictures. This helps a lot with my project installing a low mileage (70,000) motor in my 1978 733i euro. You have a great car. Hope to get up to one of the BMW gatherings in your area when I have more work done on my car.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I'm no expert by any means but I am enjoying working on this car and learning about them as I go. Good luck on your engine swap, I hope to see your car one of these days! I do have a few parts cars currently, so if you are looking for anything please feel free to send me a message.

M102 swap yours already! You have multiple parts cars, I bet you have one with a late fuse box aka an 09/82+ Ljet so you can just use its harness.
    I make E23 parts.

I want to! Unfortunately both time and money for car projects is short right now.

Pretty much how life always will be sadly. When you have one, you rarely have the either

Well I figure I should post this in here, instead of starting a new thread. Going to post photos and projects for both cars here. I picked up another 1984 733i last weekend. My buddy has owned this car for a couple of years, but recently had to change his storage and parking situation, and wanted to put more effort into his 2002 restorations so the E23 got the axe. I didn't want to buy it at first, since I already have 2 ongoing car projects that are consuming my spare cash. I was trying to get some of the other Bimmer guys around here to take it, but after a few months of back and forth I finally gave in and agreed to be the next caretaker of this beautiful E23.
My wife and I went up to Vancouver WA on the 19th and picked up the car. It is nice to buy a car from someone who takes good care of their things, as I usually buy old beaters that have been neglected for years. I was happy to be driving a well maintained and functioning car, since the last few days have been some serious rainfall in our part of Oregon, which is saying a lot. it was horribly stormy but we made the 1.5 hour drive back home in the middle of the night without issue. These photos aren't very flattering, I hope to get some more when the weather dries up and I can go out cruising. Currently a lot of the roads around us are flooded, which means its Land Cruiser time not BMW time haha. This car is a real beaut though.

I have been tinkering with the black 733 a bit, I rebuilt the front calipers and bought some reman rears from rock auto. I wanted to do the E32 rear brake upgrade to this car as well, but after searching for a few weeks for some reman calipers or some used ones to rebuild I was coming up with nothing. I decided to just stick with the factory rear brakes, and the previous owner had put some snazzy drilled rotors on recently, so I just reused them.
I also sourced some reproduction euro accessory stripes from Poland, and I cleaned up a Dinan suspension set that I have had on the shelf.

I cleaned up a set of euro headlights and grilles and swapped those in earlier this spring.

I spent Monday installing the suspension and brakes, and I think the car is sitting pretty nicely on the Dinan springs. The front came down 1.5'', while the rear didn't come down at all, so I think I will take it apart again and drop the springs down on their perches a couple notches. I am going to wait and see if they settle a bit before changing it up.
