    Anyone go from e30 > e28 m5

I used to drive an 87 911 daily, inasmuch as I drive daily which is not every day, then values climbed and I wanted better ac so I sold it and bought a plastic bumper 89 325i which I love. But being curious I cant help note e30 prices on the rise and m5 prices maybe cooling a bit. Very curious to hear from folks with experience in both. Im talking driver quality cars and I do all my own repairs.

    Cheers from CT.

Totally different cars. The E28 is not suited as a DD unless you are driving on the highway and mostly away from stoplight to stoplight city traffic.

I DDd my E28 M5 for about ~7 years, then the E34 M5 took over that duty. Tons of bumper to bumper traffic with both, I know the 88 M5 is a fine car to DD.

I dont give a damn about market values, what matters is the driving experience and the 88 M5 delivers that with every mile. Id DD a 964 or 993 911 if I had room for one, but I simply enjoy the E28 and E34 M5s more than any 911 Ive ever driven.

Zero ownership time with the E30. Driven a few E30 M3s and they are fun, but its just not what Im interested in. I remember the CCA people scratching their heads when I showed up to autoX with my first 88 M5. They didnt know what a BMW was outside of E30s, E36s and weird rigs like the Z1 that a chapter member was fond of and constantly had in the monthly newsletter (they did feature a badass 850CSi from time to time, when the publishing crew were feeling rebellious). Then again nobody - aside from a few small group of owners/enthusiasts - knew what an E28 M5 was. Nobody cared, which was half the point of an E28 that could keep pace with a Testarossa.

Anyway, prices will drop, the US/World economy is going to have a massive correction due to debt/inflation. Watch for great bargains in the future, hopefully reminiscent of prices when I bought my 88 M5 in 2001 with 112k on the odo for $11k (probably overpaid). Bought a 2nd 88 M5 in early 2009 with 117k on the odo for $8500; both were and are 8/10 on aesthetic condition, mechanically in 10/10 condition. So if you dont feel like paying an EAG-level price ($45k+) for an 88 M5, just wait. No sense in throwing $$$ away.
