Bought a 1991 850i

I've always wanted this car and when I saw one locally for sale, I jumped on it.

1991 850i

131,xxx miles

I took it to an independent BMW dealer for an oil change ($147) and received a list of recommended services:

Needs Front Struts and mounts
Rear brake hoses
Hoses by the fuel filter are cracked but not leaking
LR ball joints
Grommet mounts for oil filter housing

This doesn't seem to be a tall order when buying a used car. The car has non 8-Series wheels on it, which I don't like and planned on replacing with M-Parallels. I would love to find the Throwing Starts but not really finding anything. I blamed the bad ride on these wheels but it's the struts. With the help of this forum, looks like I'll replace these with OEM Bilstein B8 front strut inserts. Open to other/better options.

Few other things:
The car has the wrong badging (850ci) which I'll change. Came with Remus exhaust which seems fine. I don't have anything to compare it to. Purchased the Dinan engine software/chips, awaiting install.

Hopefully I can get these repairs and updates w/in the next few months. I'll post those pics when available.

I would replace all the rubber brake hoses with your choice of stainless steel.

I would suggest replacing all of the fuel lines from tank to injector rails and return lines, but you have to pull the rear seats to change the hoses on both left and right carriers on the tank. Pumps are on the right side and fuel level device is on the left side. Probably needs fuel filters too. And, check the main alternator cable that runs from back of alternator through a steel pipe bolted to the left side of engine above the spark plugs. Wire runs to the B+ battery post under the hood. These wires are known to wear through, short out, and start a fire. Wire can be replaced without having to purchase the complete part. I just bought an 850i Badge for my 1991. Took a couple months to get though

Sold my CSI Badge to finance it.

I may be wrong, but I believe it’s only the CSi badge that’s unavailable. I also see the 850i and Ci badges on eBay from time to time.

51148108850 is the part# for the 850i badge. All one badge.
These have been unavailable for the last 2years.
If someone actually has a source that has any of those, please let me know.

The "850" badge (no "i") IS available, I believe the "Ci" is available too.
The "CSi" is NLA from BMW as well

I didn't know you couldn't buy them any longer. However, there was a new "850i" badge in the glove box.
