For Sale:
1999 BMW 528i Touring
231,xxx miles
$2500 or reasonable offer
The Good:
- It has been our main trip car for 6.5 years. I am only selling because we needed a larger vehicle for our family.
- 5 speed manual transmission
- M-Sport package – The steering wheel, shifter, and rims are M-sport. The car is factory lowered with this package and has distinctive bumpers.
- Continental DWS tires (and it has actually done pretty well in the snow)
- It passed inspection with no issues in 8/2018.
- Subframe bushings were replaced in 2013.
- It comes with an extra set of rims (the tires are shot on that set).
- It comes with an extra set of front seats – the original driver’s seat and a replacement passenger seat.
- I will vacuum any crumbs still in the car prior to sale. I have young children and we make lots of long road trips that equate to eating in the car way more than I would like.
The Not-Quite-As-Good:
- It is not exactly cosmetically beautiful up close. The paint is faded in many areas, it is scratched and dented, and the interior isn’t even close to perfect. But hey, you don’t need to worry about kid messes!
- The radio does not work. There is a water leak somewhere in the hatch that we could not locate and it kept frying amplifiers. Computer speakers rigged for the cigarette adapter with an 1/8” audio cable are included.
- The rear windows do not go down. The one on the driver’s side is held up with a stick in the door because the regulator broke three times and we got tired of fixing it.
- The last time I opened the sunroof, it made a really bad sound. So I closed it and haven’t opened it since.
- It leaks some oil – about a quart or so every 10,000 miles. The gasket to fix this is included.
- One of the rear wheel bearings is going. I think it’s the driver’s side.
If I think of anything else, I will update this post.

Rare car but not an M Sport, there was no such package available on E39 6 cylinder Tourings stateside. M Sport was available on a limited number of 540's, though. Your car has standard bumpers and seats. The steering wheel is a sport steering wheel and the style 5's wheels were likely added at some point as they do not match the spare.
Great spec car though, wish you were on the West Coast. I'm looking for a "well loved" e39 to add to my fleet. GLWS!
Uber my 2000 528i 5speed manual has the m-sport package. Which is the suspension.. gear shifter. Steering wheel and wheels. Well then I even upgraded all that. I’m going to sell it next month.
