Engine Oil Level High X3 3.0 diesel - 2.5L Overfull

Hi all, long time browser first time poster and looking for some advice....please.

I have just conducted a routine oil level check on my 07/2007 3.0D E83 X3. I was a bit shocked to find that the level was way up over the full mark and on the wire shaft of the dipstick. It has been 9000km since the last oil change and the engine has done 118000km.

I have drained 2.5 litres of oil from the engine to bring it down to just under the full mark.

I can only assume that with this amount of excess the oil is being contaminated with diesel (its definitely not coolant).

From some quick online research I have found that there is a few instances of the seal leaking on the high pressure diesel pump (HPDP) allowing diesel to enter the inside of the engine and therefore raise the engine oil level.

Has anyone else had this issue? Can the HPDP be overhauled or does it have to be replaced?

Any advise is welcome, thanks in advance.

    Regards

    Dave

I would start by having oil analysis done. In the US, we have for instance Blackstone Labs offering their services for this. Hopefully there would be something similar available Down Under.
It would be good to have a confirmation that there really is diesel mixed with oil.

Thanks for your reply. I am sure that there would be somewhere that would do oil testing, however I have had to ask myself the question.......what else could have filled the crankcase other than diesel? Its definitely not coolant and the vehicle has not been serviced for 9000km which is when I serviced it. (was a Mercedes tech in a past life)

I do agree though, it would be nice to confirm its diesel but for yet another expense......ah what to do? Bloody cars!! Just wish I could find some concrete evidence that the HPDP was responsible before I fork out another $1200AUD. Heaps of info stating that this is pretty common but yet to find a post confirming this was actually the case (hope that make sense)
