    Locked out of my trunk

Any help is appreciated here. My wife took the car to the supermarket and called me saying the trunk won’t open. The key won’t turn and the lock is stuck in the side to side position. I here the actuator working when locking and unlocking from either door.

I looked the the problem up and only found a YouTube video showing a guy drilling hole into the trunk.

The button goes goes in and out with no issues, but won’t turn.

Its a 2000 2.3 with the updated rear end if that makes a difference.

It could be a long shot, but have you tried lock oil?

Update: I took the car to work and had a chance to play with the lock. I put some white lithium grease on the key and put it in the lock. I was just real gentle with it, sliding the key in and out and also gently moving it from side to side. It seemed to do the trick. I was able to get the lock to turn again.

Is lithium grease good good or bad for the lock? It was all I had on hand.

I would expect that, over time, it would tend to gum up the lock. I would get some lock oil (not graphite) and work it in. It should thin out the lithium grease and you should be OK after that.
