I've come to the conclusion that me EWS3 and DME have become out of synch. When I try using INPA to re-synch them I get this message.
EDIABAS-Error
[ERROR_ECU_UNKNOWN_STATUSBYTE] instead of [OKAY]!
continue script processing?
If anyone as encountered and solved this it'd be much appreciated if they could run me through how to fix it.
Probably start by giving details about what car, and why you think it came out of sync, etc.

Car is a 2001 325xi it had been sitting for several years prior to me purchasing it from a friend. The reason it sat was because of a seized front diff. After fixing that with a new diff and other goodies along the way also replaced the battery, as the old was dead and pretty old. Now at this point I try to start the car and it doesn't crank. So I start searching online for possible reasons, and I come across different threads and such of people who've had problems with their ews3. Looking into this I find out you can put a 30amp fuse in pins 1&2 of the female ews plug to check if the car will crank. It does, mind you it wont start I assume because the dme isn't receiving the code(s) from the ews3. Now I'm hoping ews3 is good as the ignition stops beeping with they key in. That sorta surmises everything other then I purchased a cable off amazon and installed inpa following provided instructions in hopes that I'd find out whats going with car.
Good, diagnosis is the next step. Read codes in ews. Then run through the status menus for additional info.
Problem can be as simple as a clutch switch (if manual). Diag will help figure it out.

When I select the Ews I'm getting that same error as when I tried to synch the ews and dme.

When I look under engine I get 209 ews-code
start value not accepted/random numbers not changed.

Hmm, it may be a dying ews module. It should at least diagnose fine.
One more idea.
Do you have pins 7&8 bridged on your cable? (You should for this car).

I do, I had trouble even reading the car till I soldered them with some wire together. Could the cable still be the problem? It is a cheap one off amazon.
