If I wanna change my heated steering wheel to an M-Sport wheel, are they heated ever? Doesnt state on RealOEM
The only "sport" wheels that i know of that are three spoke and heated are from the E70 and the e60's i think. but i'm pretty sure they wont bolt up or work electrically.

The E83 and E53 both have a heated sport wheel option. The E83 can even have the ///M logo. Have the E53 heated wheel in the Touring. Also have the E83 ///M logo wheel trims pieces someplace.
Decent write up from a few years back. Plus it still has the pics/vids.

So, yes you can have your cake and eat it too.....

I think Nordman put an E83 sport steering wheel into an E38.
Are we giving full disclosure here and possibly providing false hope? I ask because the OP has a 98 740iL listed which means they have a single stage airbag/steering wheel.
The e53 & e83 models that came with a 3-spoke heated steering wheel came late in production (at least for the e53 it appeared on the facelift which puts it being offered sometime between the 2004-2006 model year) and are dual stage airbag/steering wheels.

Yes let's be clear, E53 and E83 steering wheels will only fit E38s with dual-stage airbags, which I think is 99+.
Also beware: I think these wheels had Takata airbags and may have been subject to their extensive recall.
OP, what month of 1998 was your E38 built? If it's in the second half of the year there is a chance you're running the dual stage setup. Not getting hopes up but it's worth investigating.
Personally I find the E53 sport steering wheels insanely bulky and ugly looking (we have an E53 sport) I would never want that in my E38. But, to each their own!
In the US market...it is easy to tell what the "official" model year is regardless of the vehicles build date. The federal DOT (dept of transportation) requires that the 10th digit of the VIN reveal what the official model year is. This has been in affect since the 1980-81 model year...and continues on still. (this may not apply to markets outside of the USA)
If the 10th digit of your VIN is a "V"...then it is a 1997 model year (your paperwork got screwed up somewhere)...but if it is a "W" then it is a 1998 model year (even though the build date is 4/97).
Yes, September is usually the roll out month for a new model year...but that convention is not always true...BMW (and other marques) have short runs, extended runs, early roll-outs, and late roll outs of a models ending and introduction in some model years.
