Or is it a 6 configuration difference from automatic transmission cars?
bdiefAZ - I originally had an R12 compressor which I replaced with an R134a part.

The pulley size is definitely different. From what I have seen, some compressors for the E31/32 have the regular pulley size (no provision for 2nd alternator belt), whereas some do.

My R12 compressor did not, but my R134a compressor does have the extra ribs for the second belt.

What I do know is that the pulley that has the additional ribs for the 2nd alternator belt is larger in diameter.

PeteJK - is your car a J spec? The only car I have seen with the second alternator setup was a J-Spec car from Canada.

    My car isn’t a J spec.

I just received an AC compressor with the pulley that would work in that configuration. This necessitated using a longer belt. Plus with using the 109mm water pump pulley, longer still. The only car that matches that accessory belt configuration is the 2nd alternator equipped E32.

My new AC compressor before I fitted it:

The reason I brought it up is the pulley looks to be the same as the one in dragon850’s picture.

For comparison, here’s one with the standard pulley:
