2000 528it Main Odomenter Not Working

I did some googling, and didn't really find an answer that made sense. As the title says, the main odometer in the car is not working. The trip odometer works fine, and so does the rest of the cluster. Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Vince

Do you have a little dot next to the odo reading? If so somebody has swapped the cluster from another car and the mileage that is on it is not representative of what the car actually has.

If the VINs don't match the mileage is not supposed to continue to increment. I've never tested it to see if the trip odo still works but I imagine it might.

Mister geargrinder, thank you for the reply once again!

I am hoping to attach a picture of the odometer, and as you can see, there is no dot to be seen. Whether or not the mileage is correct is hard to say. It does not look like the odo was obviously removed recently. I bought the car from an independent dealer and have not tried to contact some of the former owners yet. The car does have some miles on it, but it is quite clean inside and out. It has a BMW battery in it, so it may have seen fairly regular dealer visits. Odo.jpg

Someone has been messing with that cluster's EEPROM, or you could see if a battery nap can fix it. Basically, on those older clusters, the EEPROM chip was a 93s66 and for some reason, they max out at pretty much the mileage you have on your display. It basically can't increment any higher. In theory, replacing the cluster with another used one (newer though) and coding/mileage correcting, should fix it. That is unless the LCM has updated to that mileage as well, as that might change things. Either way, it is repairable. PM me if you want to consider a repair option.

That is what the odometer says. I am not entirely sure if it is correct.
